KDElinux on Surface Pro

This is copied from a post I made to Discuss about KDE-Linux and my Surface Pro 3 Tablets:

A quick Update. The 4/64GB Surface Pro 3 didn’t like the last KDE-Linux Update, so it is back to my modded Mint for the moment while I try to sort the problem.
However the 8/256GB Surface Pro is still working perfectly at Nov 07 2026.

Here’s a screenshot of the SP3’s Info box over the top of a KRDC window into my Lenovo m93p (also running KDE-Linux).

Performance on the SP3 so far is at least as good as on my Lenovos, despite the Surface Pro running a slightly slower Intel i5 than the Lenovos are running and only having 8GB RAM.

There was no problem (so far) updating KDE-Linux despite my not attempting an update for about a week. Discover’s Update showed an older KDE-Linux Update, along with a ‘protocol error’ message - but it Updated cleanly to yesterday’s image on restart.

All the Update Images lately have been around 2GB to 2.5GB, so I haven’t seen how it does with a 7GB Update yet.

So as long as this goes smoothly, it looks like the minimum sensible ‘workable’ specs for something as light as the Surface Pro, and probably Surface Laptops will probably be:
An i3 or preferably an i5 Processor (Guessing about i3 - but i5 is perfect)

8GB RAM and 256GB of onboard SSD or whatever these things are running.

As mentioned before, I still have access to the USB port, but haven’t tested it with more than a 256GB USB stick.
And I am using it successfully with a 512GB Sandisk Ultra card in the MicroSD Slot.

Oh, The Screenshot was saved to the ‘Public’ folder on the Surface pro, then once the Public folder was Shared under the Permissions tab - I easily opened it on this computer by using Dolphin and ‘Network’ in Places on the Left pane.

I have not solved the problem of not being able to use KRDC to open a window into my lenovo M900, but that is a ‘Me Error’. I’ve forgotten something. Samba shares though are working perfectly.

** A lot of this info will probably apply to just about any useful laptop with similar lowish specs. I just happen to only have Surface Pros lying around these days.
